24 Carrot Carnival Poster Comp

24 Carrot Carnival Poster Comp

October 2025

Magic Materials poster for 24 Carrot Carnival 2025. Colorful floral patterns form the words and a flower bouquet, set against a light background with a textured soil base.

At this year’s 24 Carrot Carnival in November, Year 3 and 4 students will celebrate the incredible resources our planet provides, and ways we can use them wisely.

Our Carnival will consolidate learnings from Material Institute workshops, kitchen garden sessions at school sites, and classroom learning throughout the year. Through immersive performances and activities, we will explore waste minimisation, regeneration, and circular thinking — learning from nature’s own cycles. From reducing rubbish and cleaning up our spaces, to using and re-using materials creatively, we will discover how small actions can make a big impact.

For our Carnival poster design, we extended an invitation to Year 3 and 4 students to design an eye-catching poster for this year’s Carnival, exploring our theme of MAGIC MATERIALS.

Collage of a tree using dried flowers and bark. The bark forms the trunk, while purple and green petals shape the canopy. Scribbles are visible in the corners.
Colorful drawing with "magic materials" text, showing mushrooms, a strawberry, an eggplant, a carrot, and sunlight, conveying a whimsical tone.
Child's artwork of a tree. The trunk is made from wood chips, the canopy with greenery and pink accents. Two pink circles represent fruits.
Child's painting of three trees with green foliage against a pink and purple sky. A simple white animal stands between the trees, creating a whimsical scene.
A colorful drawing depicts four seasons. Autumn shows an orange tree, Winter has snowflakes, Spring features flowers, and Summer displays a sunny beach.
Collage of a tree with a wooden trunk and a foliage canopy made of dried flowers and leaves on a white background. Loose flowers scattered around.
An art piece showing a carrot, corn, and a smiling peanut made from seeds, lentils, and leaves on white paper. Whimsical and creative.
Mixed media art with colorful splashes, a green clay star shape, bark pieces, dried grass, and a small clay frame with blue strings. The tone is playful and abstract.
Children's drawing of red apples, orange carrots, and purple sweet potatoes, with handwritten text about fruits and vegetables being good and ideas for growing them in a garden.

Our poster inspiration was:

  • Nature’s cycles (seasons, the water cycle, plant photosynthesis)
  • Healthy soils and helpful critters (worms, microbes, pollinators)
  • Fantastic funghi (mushrooms!)
  • Compost (transforming food scraps and garden waste back into nutritious soil)
  • Embracing wonky fruit and veg (using all parts, pickling, preserving)
  • Zero waste (how can we produce less rubbish?)
  • Caring for our environment
  • Creative ways to repair or reuse things
  • Upcycling / recycling

Despite only being able to choose one entry for our final poster, we received so many amazing entries, and we just had to share some of our favorites and the final poster selection.

A big congratulations to Mia C from Brighton Primary School who took out the winning spot (as seen at the top) with votes from the 24 Carrot team!

We are thankful for everyone who went to the effort to create something and think about all the magic materials we have around us!

Child's painting of a colorful rainbow in the top left corner, a blue tree with a rainbow trunk, a green tree, black birds in the sky, and a grassy field.
Collage of a tree on paper made from bark, leaves, and petals, surrounded by scattered debris, conveying a rustic, natural tone.
Colorful art piece on white paper with two glittery, gold yarn clusters, pipe cleaners in rainbow colors forming a stick figure. Pebbles and wood create facial features. Playful and whimsical tone.
An arrangement of dried spices and leaves resembles a tree on a white background. Flower buds form the sun in the top left, with bark and seeds as the ground.
Childlike drawing of an orange carrot with green leaves on white paper. The words "24 Carat" humorously written above in black marker. Playful tone.
Collage of a tree made with twigs for the trunk and lentils, seeds, and flowers for the foliage on paper. Creative, earthy, and textured.
Child's drawing of a sunny garden scene with a house, chicken, wooden fence, watering can, compost bin, and trees, conveying a cheerful outdoor vibe.
